Day 1

Arrival in Addis Ababa

Arrive in Addis Ababa, hotel transfer, and orientation with your birding guide focused on Ethiopia’s endemic species. Overnight at Nexus Hotel or Debre Damo.

Day 2

Addis Ababa – Entoto Hills Birding

Morning birdwatching in Entoto Hills for endemic and highland species. Visit Entoto Maryam Church, National Museum, and local markets. Overnight in Addis.

Day 3

Addis Ababa – Debre Libanos & Blue Nile Gorge

Drive to Debre Libanos, birding woodland and cliff habitats along the gorge. Look for Abyssinian Catbird, White-winged Cliff Chat, and Lammergeyer. Overnight near Debre Libanos.

Day 4

Debre Libanos – Ankober & Kundi Birding Sites

Travel to the Ankober highlands for forest-edge birding, targeting Ankober Serin and Ethiopian Oriole. Overnight in local lodge or guesthouse.

Day 5

Ankober – Lake Langano & Ziway

Drive to Rift Valley lakes, exploring Lake Langano and Lake Ziway for waterbirds, pelicans, cormorants, and migrants. Overnight at Langano lodge/resort.

Day 6

Lake Ziway – Arba Minch (Nechisar NP)

Morning birdwatching at Lake Ziway. Drive to Arba Minch with stops at Nechisar National Park for savannah and wetland species. Overnight at Swaynes Hotel.

Day 7

Arba Minch – Lake Chamo & Dorze Village

Early boat trip on Lake Chamo to spot Pelicans, Goliath Herons, and African Fish Eagles. Afternoon cultural visit to Dorze villages with birding along agricultural landscapes. Overnight in Arba Minch.

Day 8

Arba Minch – Jinka & Mago National Park

Drive through the Omo Valley to Jinka with birding stops along the route. Optional late afternoon Mago National Park visit. Overnight in Jinka.

Day 9

Jinka – Mursi & Ari Villages

Visit Mursi villages with birding in surrounding woodlands. Continue to Ari villages to observe birds in mixed agricultural habitats. Overnight in Jinka.

Day 10

Jinka – Turmi via Omo River & Karo Tribe

Drive to Turmi with birding along the Omo River for African Jacana, Malachite Kingfisher, and African Pygmy Goose. Visit Karo villages. Overnight at Evangadi Lodge.

Day 11

Turmi – Konso via Hamer & Dassanech Villages

Early birding along the Omo River. Drive to Konso with stops at Hamer and Dassanech villages for riverine and arid-habitat species. Overnight at Kanta Lodge.

Day 12

Konso – Bale Mountains (via Addis)

Return to Addis by flight or scenic drive, then continue to Bale Mountains National Park, home to many endemic birds. Overnight at Sanetti Lodge or similar.

Day 13

Bale Mountains – Highland Birding

Full day birdwatching targeting Bale Mountains Warbler, Blue-winged Goose, Ethiopian Siskin, and Rouget’s Rail. Overnight in Bale Mountains lodge.

Day 14

Bale Mountains – Addis Ababa & Departure

Morning birding in the lower forest zones. Return to Addis Ababa for afternoon or evening departure.
